Complaints

The Office of Human Resources' goal is to resolve work related complaints expeditiously and professionally. Employees with complaints may contact an Employee Relations representative directly to attempt to resolve their work related issues at an informal level. The Employee Relations representative can act as a facilitator for meetings and discussions, and provide clarification and interpretation for written policies and procedures. The Employee Relations Representative will offer the best advice and approach to DePaul employees in an effort to satisfactorily address their issues or concerns.

For specific details outlining the process recommended to resolve informal complaints, refer to the Human Resources policy section at the university policy and procedure web site.

Grievances

A grievance is an allegation by an employee that there has been a specific violation, misinterpretation or misapplication of any of DePaul’s rules, policies or procedures. The actual rules, policies or procedures are not subject for grievance.

This policy does not apply to the following: Policy decisions, or decisions made by the President (or his designee), which affect a group of employees equally (e.g., norms for salary increases, benefit schedules, etc.). Decisions made on the recommendation of a duly appointed board or committee which affect a group of employees equally.

DePaul employees and their managers are expected to attempt to resolve all work related issues informally. Issues that are not resolved at this level should proceed to the next higher level of administration and/or Human Resources. If the informal methods utilized do not result in a satisfactory resolution of the problem, or if the employee so chooses at the outset, he/she may choose to proceed to initiating a formal grievance.

For specific information on the Complaints and Grievances Policy, refer to the Human Resources policies at the university policy and procedure web site.

Harassment

DePaul University prohibits harassment of any kind, including sexual harassment. If you, or any University employee, feels that sexual and gender harassment has occurred, or if you have observed harassing behavior, please contact the Office of Institutional Diversity at 312-362-6872.

If you believe that you have been harassed on any basis other than sexual harassment, you should immediately discuss the circumstances of the harassment with an Employee Relations representative. The University will promptly handle each complaint with discretion and, where necessary, appropriate action will be taken.
