How Do I Create a New Part-Time Staff Position?
Manager Writes a Job Description
- Create a brief job description describing the duties and responsibilities that the part-time employee will perform.
- Describe the desired work schedule, total number of hours per week, and an hourly salary range.
Note: For purposes of Federal Labor Standards Act and time and labor reporting regulations all part-time employees should be hired with an hourly rate.)
Contact Compensation for a Part-Time Position Number
- Contact the Human Resources - Compensation Department to have a part-time position number created.
How Do I Recruit For a Part-Time Staff Position?
Posting the Position
- Provide the job description and position number to your HR recruiter
- Your HR recruiter will create a job posting and forward a draft to you for review and approval. Once you have approved the posting the position will be posted on DePaul University's Careers website.
- Communicate the vacancy to your department/division and ask that all interested submit their resume for consideration through the Careers website.
Search Procedures
- Develop a search plan by establishing your screening criteria and develop a search plan.
Screening and Selection Process
- Your HR recruiter will forward resumes received for your review.
- Review resumes received
- Conduct phone screens (optional)
- Identify candidates for on-campus interviews
- Identify testing if needed
- Work with recruiter to schedule on-campus interviews/testing
- Ask candidate if they require a special accommodation to complete the interview process.
- Determine type of interview (i.e. Individual, Serial, Committee)
- Develop interview questions (For consistency purposes all candidates should be asked the same set of questions).
Interview and Pre-Employment Background Check
- Conduct on-campus interviews
- Collect background check consent form from candidate.
- Complete interview record sheet on each candidate.
- Identify the finalist and communicate to your recruiter
Note: The HR recruiter will conduct a background check on your finalist. The recruiter will also extend the official employment offer and advise you of the candidate's response.
New Employee On-boarding
- Prepare for departmental on-boarding (i.e. computer access, telephone, etc.)
